The Biggest Little News Item
This CVS update is a pretty big deal. It marks a point at which GNOME and KDE converge on the same, freedesktop.org approved message bus.
This suggests things like the “USB Drive Inserted” dialogs will become very easy to handle. Perhaps refreshes on file manager dialogs will be more reliable. The key thing is this: the IPC mechanism is great, but D-BUS adds that critical link into kernel events.
The APIs for Python, et al., will be critically important as well.

I Won! I Won!
Browsing miserably through my bank’s website for “information” (foreign concept), I encountered this quote:
[…] members are eligible for membership into Sam’s Club. Bring proof of credit union membership (i.e. monthly statement) to Sam’s to get enrolled. Normal enrollment fees apply. [my emphasis]
From the Book of Kanye:
But I know they don’t want me in the damn club
They even made me show I.D to get up into Sam’s Club
Something tells me it’s not that hard to pull off.

Nostalgia
Forget what Windows 3.1 was like? In XP, open up Control Panel and select the Fonts applet. Go to the File menu and click “Install New Font…” Oh so VB4 16-bit edition.
In other news, the new computer parts are bought, and UPS tracking numbers are starting to hit the e-mail box. Hopefully, we have a Friday ETA for all parts, as they seem to be in three different boxes (boxen?).

Study
Trying to learn more about shared memory and IPC has been brutal to say the least, with most tutorials of the damnable ilk: “Here’s some code that shows I know how to do this. I’m sure it makes sense.”
Edit: Ahhhhhh… here we go. Get your scrolling wheel ready…
Edit 2: Now that I’ve read the above, I see that this is most necessary.

Why? I'll Tell You Why!
I didn’t see any mention here of the pleasure of delivering a ten minute prepared speech every time you sit down to eat with a normal person.

Owning PHP
The PHP IMAP library is a lot more do-able than I had originally thought. The rapid-prototyping characteristics of the language came out in full force today, with a short script capable of logging into and displaying the contents of a spam quarantine on my local IMAP server.
This honestly took something like 30 minutes. I was shaking my head while coding. “It can’t be this simple” crossed my lips not a few times.
I mean, the thing has no functionality, but it lists headers. Remind me to keep disliking this language.

Blog?
Yeah, not a whole lot of updates recently. Did see something just now of some comedic note on Slashdot.
The Central-Hype Limit Theorem:
As the size of the sample increases, the average opinion of the group approaches the actual utility of the product in question.
My server work has progressed to a fairly advanced point. I have spam filtering going, and we really just need a good PHP quarantine manager to be almost feature-complete.

Deal or No Deal
Deal or No Deal is the closest thing to a perfect game show I have ever seen. It embodies all the attractiveness of almost every game of chance.

Fall Out Boy
I love these guys. This song has recently grabbed my attention in a big way.
