As far as the block-highlighting goes, it is my conclusion that setting the text to full justify (CSS: text-align: justify;) creates this behavior. I think Firefox handles it a bit more gracefully than does IE, which seems to drop to the floor with seizures whenever the mouse is dragged with the left button pressed.
