Feeling Edgy
Ubuntu Edgy Eft RC1 has been released.
It’s actually a pretty important release. Getting rid of SysVInit is always a notable accomplishment. I really hate init scripts (I would guess any Slackware veteran with server experience would), so maybe this will be better.
I think it might get a VMWare image sometime, or maybe even a coveted partition, as I’m pretty excited to see Gnome 2.16, Firefox 2.0 (!), and new artwork. Kermit may find it difficult to be green, but Ubuntu definitely has a hard time staying cool while being poo brown.
I’ve decided that the worst part about a men’s haircut is the inevitable sideburn trim question. The reason this is painful is that it mimics the dentist scenario, in which you have a skilled, practiced technician making you feel like an idiot for not exhibiting top-notch performance on a fairly sideline issue of life.
There needs to be a better question than “Should I trim them off or just straighten them up?” No, leave them crooked, knothead. This ain’t always a dichotomous world we live in. It’s a crazy world, and I like my hair to reflect that. Therefore, I painstakingly trim my sideburns crooked to show the imbalance and cognitive dissonance that typifies my life.
I’ve thought some amount to myself about the detection ratio for crooked sideburns. I’ve occasionally had some real starboard-leaners for a number of days. I would assume, a la Jim Gaffigan, that a detection of crooked sideburns would make you look like your spaceship is in for repairs. I would guess the detection probability is well under 1%, though, so all of us sloppy shavers are off the hook most of the time.
